Ellen Southern is a singer and visual artist from the UK, working with
voice, sound and site. She co-founded the experimental early music
group, Dead Space Chamber Music, who in the last year have toured the UK with hackedepicciotto (Alexander Hacke of Einstürzende Neubauten & Danielle de Picciotto Crime and the City Solution) and internationally acclaimed composer and virtuoso cellist Jo Quail.
She co-hosts the Dark Alchemy event series held in held in unique spaces including crypts and churches, immersing audiences in the acoustics, aesthetic and atmosphere of each. Her solo project, Site Singing, developed from field trips to sites including ancient Neolithic long barrows, medieval ruins and an abandoned Victorian stone bridge. The resulting artwork and vocal field recordings form the basis of performance-rituals which are an atmospheric dark-ambient combination of experimental solo voice, vocal field recordings, and sound-making objects.
She has collaborated with many notable artists including Jo Quail,Roly
Porter, The SeeR, Gruth & Joanna Puuperä ('All that We See or Seem'
Miasmah Recordings, Berlin).

I honestly can't praise this highly enough. This is soundscape electronica. It's one of those LPs where it is almost impossible to choose a favourite, because by the time you get to the next piece, it's that! The song titles and the cover art are evocative of the pleasures within. I can't make up my mind if it's dystopian (it's eerie) or utopian (it's also kinda breezy), either way, it's a a futuristic album of great beauty. Check this out for certain. knightd68
